At night, the harbour boats and yachts return to be arranged in neat rows. The waves lap around the Quay, spinnakers rattle and the Yacht Club or local pubs nearby are full of talk of the day’s catch, or maybe the one that got away.
Get up early enough and you will see the working fishing boats gather to unload their catch of shrimp, lobster, crab and the famous New Quay mackerel, most of which is exported to Europe and beyond. Fresh fish is on sale in the harbour, including the popular crab and mackerel.
In summer, life revolves around the bustling coastline. New Quay boasts a Blue Flag sandy beach around the headland’s rugged cliffs, tiny coves and rocky pools.
Fascinating at any time of day, the coastline is truly remarkable. New Quay enjoys a mild climate – temperatures are generally warmer than inland.
